ABSTRACT

There is no doubt that technology has provided a significant boost to the resources available to support children and young adults with learning problems. The role that technology plays in student achievement is extremely important. Students nowadays are growing up accustomed to the inherent concept of customisation. Computers and smartphones currently encourage customisation and are based around customisation. Based on the four dimensions of motivation, it is clear that video games provide a promising venue through which learning can be enhanced and supported. MIND Research Institute developed a series of maths-based computer games that have accompanying textbooks and other professional development tools. There has been a huge increase in the use of interactive technology and social media in the learning process. Innovative learning environments have been found to be particularly good at supporting collaborative learning compared to more traditional settings. Digital portfolios can also enable students to express their own learning and track it in novel and exciting ways.
