ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the factors that motivate and de-motivate students to learn and answer two basic issues: the motivating factors need to know/encourage to motivate students with specific learning difficulties to learn; and the factors needed to be avoided/not done to ensure that students are motivated. Many factors affect a student's motivation to learn, such as interest in the subject matter, general desire to achieve, self-confidence and self-esteem, in addition to patience and perseverance. Almost all teachers feel that they can affect their students' learning, but not all teachers feel the same way regarding their students' motivation. The multifaceted nature of motivation raises a number of issues as far as teaching and learning are concerned. The methods of teaching adopted by various teachers are among some of the most motivating factors for students' learning. The level of difficulty of the tasks given to a student has a direct relationship on their level of motivation.
