ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on policies for England; the governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own education and health policies. The Children and Families Act placed a legal duty on schools to support children with medical conditions. Subsequent policies have emerged to provide a clear framework within which multiple services, including education, can work together to ensure that the needs of children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families are met. Integrated Personal Commissioning (IPC) is a grand plan for England which enables the joining up of health care funds, social care funds and education funds to provide personal health budgets for individuals who have significant needs. Some children with an Education, Health and Care Plan are eligible for a personal budget which provides funding for additional education, health care and social care services. A personal budget for health services is called a personal health budget.
