A brief history of postcolonial geography
The aim of this chapter is to familiarize readers with the historical and thematic trajectory of the subfield ‘postcolonial geography’. The chapter discusses the ways that human geography has been influenced by postcolonial theory over the past few decades. Identifying key readings, workshops and debates, the chapter presents a ‘survey’ of the main preoccupations of ‘postcolonial geography’ and their development since the mid-1990s. To do this, it takes two snapshots of what the field looked like, the first in c. 2002, the second c. 2014.
