ABSTRACT

People often claim that ethics have changed because we are in the fast-paced world of the twenty-first century. They say things are different now: ‘Today’s world has placed a premium on material development, sacrificing many moral [ethical] and spiritual values on the altar of material progress’ (Bennani 2004: 3). Ethical considerations are too often ranked second to practical concerns, or even completely disregarded. Following this notion, many institutions of traditional trust are no longer viewed as trustworthy – thus the call for greater attention to ethical practices. Ethical principles provide the foundations of a proper social, cultural and professional existence.
