ABSTRACT

The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz, or SPK) is by far the largest cultural institution in Germany and one of the largest of its kind in the world. It emerged from the cultural institutions of the former State of Prussia, which was dissolved after the end of the Second World War. The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation is the only cultural institution in Germany that is maintained by both the Federal Government and all sixteen states, which is due to the Foundation’s particular national importance.
