ABSTRACT
Glass is fragile and inert when cool, viscous, dangerous, and reactive when hot. It can be transparent, reflective, brightly coloured, or iridescent. This chapter considers some of the available evidence for the sensory perception and experience of glass at various points in its past and refers to a number of case studies from a broad range of time periods.
