ABSTRACT

Your relationship with the principal colours your experience of working in a school. Whatever kind of school you’re teaching in, the principal is the interface for everyone connected with the school – students, parents, teachers, teaching assistants, cleaning and caretaking staff, secretary, the board of management, the Department of Education and others. The school principal has a unique perspective on the educational needs, expectations and interests of these parties and where tensions and disagreements arise, it is usually the principal who tries to resolve the conflict and balance the various interests.
