ABSTRACT

Math vocabulary is one of the linchpins of a student's mathematical understanding. It is part of having a robust sense of numbers. Students need to be able to describe and illustrate the concepts they are learning and, therefore, they need the words. The goal of the workstation is for students to have many opportunities to work with the vocabulary. Concentration games are excellent games to put in the vocabulary math workstation. The Frayer model is an excellent graphic organizer to use in the math vocabulary workstation. Graphic organizers are such great tools for thinking to use in the writing and vocabulary workstation. Vocabulary practice should be an ongoing structure in the classroom, with students working individually, with partners, and in groups. Students should be excited about the ways in which they are learning the vocabulary and interested in knowing more.
