ABSTRACT

This chapter provides examples of narratives that can help Christian clients to believe that not only is their sexual desire good but also it's actually an intended gift of the living God. It explains how American culture and the church largely fail to provide guidelines to direct the development of sexual health- a sexual ethic. In American society, whether from the church or culture, men and women are taught that sex is about intercourse and that they are entitled to sex once they're married. Jewish culture has long had a series of directives that have guided the development of loving and just sexual relationships. The Jewish understanding of sexual knowing and sexual sharing between a husband and wife took the whole person into consideration- heart desires, body desires, thoughts, and feelings. According to Jewish tradition, the sexual relationship is seen as a wonderful gift and an invitation into a kind of sacred sanctuary.
