ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about how people can guide their clients in connecting client's sexuality with their body, with their sense of spirituality, and with their partner if they have one. More commonly, numbness is being "off somewhere else" in one's head during a sexual encounter, free from pain but devoid of pleasure, too. Clients may describe thinking about work, or planning for Christmas, or worrying about money, or being lost in some sexual fantasy far away from the here-and-now. Passions are the very place where all of human innovation comes from, whether it's athletic, creative, sexual, recreational, or loving. For men, sexual desire can drop significantly when he is humiliated or when he encounters financial loss̵any situation where his power, vitality, and sense of importance are deflated. Each of the seven elements of the Anatomy of Intimacy builds on the others and expands the pleasure and connection experience of sexual intimacy.
