ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the development of a self-assessment tool that measures one’s level of cultural and compassionate competence. Seven European countries took part in this project, which involved three integrative literature reviews on topics pertinent to the tool in order to aid the generation of statements to be included in the tool. These underwent two rounds of review by a panel of experts using the principles of the Delphi approach to ensure content validity. The tool was piloted with a total of 768 nurses and other health professionals and relevant statistical testing was performed that ensured its reliability. The tool is available under open access at https://ieneproject.eu/assessment.php">https://ieneproject.eu/assessment.php. The tool is available in four different versions specific to nurses’ and other professionals’ work with: (a) adults with physical health problems; (b) adults with mental health problems; (c) children; and (d) older people.
