ABSTRACT
This short, coming-of-age fiction about teenager Elfie is based on a technical description of the DIY water system of an off-grid eco-boat in Austria. The water system on the boat is described through the eyes of a teenager, who is transitioning from child to adult. In this text Elfie’s own sense of growth is a metaphor for wider social change and a shift in consciousness around energy provision. It proposes a move away from corporate supply structures towards community-focused energy generation.
