ABSTRACT

The last stage before completing any inspection and testing activity is functional testing. Once the installation is reassembled and safely re-energised all equipment should be thoroughly tested for correct function. In the case of new installation this will be the first time that equipment is energised and therefore we must take extra care to check the correct operation of equipment in all modes. The correct operation of all switching, control and protective devices must be confirmed. At this stage adjustments may also need to be made to equipment with user-selectable controls. The best approach to functional testing is usually to start at the distribution board and then methodically energise and work through each circuit in turn. Only when people are 100 per cent satisfied that the installation performs as designed can they complete the inspection and testing activity and hand over the installation to the client.
