ABSTRACT

Training is about building on the knowledge and experience one already has, therefore each person's training needs will be different. Unfortunately, inspection and testing is not a subject that can be learned in isolation. All inspection and testing qualifications require candidates to have an excellent and up-to-date knowledge of the current IET Wiring Regulations; those not possessing such knowledge should strongly consider sitting a wiring regulations course before starting any inspection and testing training. Formal inspection and testing qualifications are available from three main awarding organisations; these are City & Guilds, EAL and LCL. Training providers wishing to offer these courses must first be approved to do so by the awarding organisation who will then carry out regular monitoring visits to ensure that the training provider operates to the high standards expected. When selecting a training course, it is essential to take time and consider the wide range of options available.
