ABSTRACT

In this chapter I discuss the aesthetic and pedagogical approach developed through the six-year-long (2003–09) artistic and art educational research and development project the Dance Laboratory 1 (Østern, 2009) in Trondheim, Norway. Today the Dance Laboratory is a performing community dance company with differently bodied dancers, with and without disabilities [Photo 1.2]. The artistic and pedagogical research journey, which included both determination and activism, that I undertook together with the group pushed me towards developing a spacious, dialogical, critical, transformative and inclusive dance pedagogy.
