ABSTRACT

This chapter is an auto-ethnographic exercise to recall, speculate on and consider the unintended consequences of digital citizen science methods and the potential impact they have on people's lives. It aims to evolve digital scholarship to embrace diverse socio-political realities. The chapter encourages marginalised scholars to tune into the creative direction of author's lived experiences, particularly in navigating the conflicts and tensions that often emerge at the boundaries of public and private space and the differences in reality between our inner and outer worlds. It invites digital scholars to consider which values they choose to carry forward into the art and crafting of digital spaces and the extent to which they support cultural democracy. The chapter offers a social praxis through which to reflect on how digital scholarship is performed in order to imagine different futures. It draws attention to the engagement that can take place around a participatory digital research project.
