ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the basis of electrical units and prefixes. It provides to state the basic International system of units (SI units). The chapter examines state the units of charge, force, work and power and perform simple calculations involving these units. It suggests that the units of electrical potential, electromotive force, resistance, conductance, power and energy and perform simple calculations involving these units. SI units may be made larger or smaller by using prefixes which denote multiplication or division by a particular amount. The unit of charge is the coulomb, where one coulomb is one ampere second. The unit of force is the newton, where one newton is one kilogram metre per second squared. The unit of work or energy is the joule, where one joule is one newton metre. The unit of power is the watt, where one watt is one joule per second.
