ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 presents our overall conclusions. We first highlight how sharers develop creative strategies for negotiating the balance between privacy and communality. We then consider how sharing relationships speak to themes of connectedness rather than individualisation. Finally, we consider the relationship between shared housing and housing inequalities within British society, and how shared housing can offer a window into broader ideological transformations at a market and relational level. Ultimately, we argue that it is the nature and quality of relationships between sharers that matter most for the success of shared living.
