ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the auhors explain how they supported practitioners within the Nest provision to settle into their role working with children under three and their families. They outline some of the professional development opportunities they invested in to support the staff in their roles. The author's aim is to provide high-quality education and care for the children and families with whom they work. At Pen Green, the authors focus on "professional development" rather than "training", as they believe learning is most effective when it is experiential with opportunities for reflection and development. This process of learning enables practitioners to continuously review their practice and identify areas for improvement. Continuous professional development is crucial to create effective teamwork for the professionals working around the child. The authors appreciate the importance of offering a diverse range of ways to enable practitioners to develop innovative practice and improve the effectiveness of the team.
