ABSTRACT
Early societies immersed in an unpolluted wilderness on which they depended absolutely, recognized the primal resonance between the natural world and human consciousness and explored it through their shamanic systems of religion and healing. Around 10,000 years ago, for Herman, agricultural civilization started walking out the 'wild'. The first Neolithic civilizations on old Europe were correspondingly peaceful and egalitarian in nature and goddess worshipping societies. Future Primal, as Herman terms, presents a model of what he calls the 'truth quest' as an archetypal dynamic of the human search for order. For Nelson Mandela and South Africa, the miracle of the negotiated revolution was a moment of transcendence within a wider culture of materialism and. power politics. The small size and self-sufficiency of the primal hunting group impelled every adult to participate in all the definitively human activities: hunter, gatherer, artist, healer, musician, learner and teacher.
