ABSTRACT

The issue of global culture has been greatly neglected. There are barriers other than that of the overemphasis upon connectivity in the discourse of global culture. Perhaps the most important of these has been and still is war across the globe, many wars of increasing intensity. There are barriers other than that of the overemphasis upon connectivity in the discourse of global culture. Perhaps the most important of these has been and still is war across the globe, many wars of increasing intensity. This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book has pivotal aspects of global culture and related themes are given sustained attention. In addition to Robertson's early discussion of glocalization, the pivotal theme of Giulianotti's chapter is centered upon glocalization with regard to sport. A summation is provided by the co-editors, Roland Robertson and Didem Buhari-Gulmez.
