ABSTRACT

Everybody knows that teams are important because there is a relentless confirmation of this fact in the media, in education, and throughout organisational life. Teams have four essential characteristics: mission, interdependency, belief, and accountability. People want to be part of real teams, and scepticism and cynicism about teams is usually from individuals who have been deeply disappointed in their own experience of them. One of the most important factors, often almost completely overlooked, is the motivational profile of the individual and of the individual compared with the team profile. A full compatibility and non-compatibility chart available in the Motivational Team Map shows an even more detailed picture. When Relationship motivators dominate the team, then motivation comes primarily from feeling secure with others, belonging and friendship, and receiving recognition from each other. Another important aspect of the team map generally is what is called the Change Index. Motivators are usefully being aligned with the key characteristics of high-performing teams.
