ABSTRACT

The purpose of developing a set of models is to provide a theoretical basis for analysing and decomposing team and collective tasks. This task analysis approach enables linkages to features and characteristics of the environment within which the task is conducted, and to instructional tasks and broader training strategy. Task analysis describes what tasks the aircrew will be performing in operating the aircraft and diagnosing faults that may occur in flight. The environment in this situation is the simulator, which has a set of features or characteristics that may be presented to the trainees. Task analysis is associated with training strategy through related activities, such as the identification of assessment criteria for task processes and task products. Through the analysis and decomposition of tasks one can accurately define which teams or individuals are involved in task performance, which leads to a functional definition of the scope of the training audience.
