Chapter 2 Critical Police Incidents: Reactions and Recovery
Pages 38

A tragic event is experienced on physical, emotional, and cognitive levels. Which level you pay attention to at any given time depends on factors such as the amount of time that has passed since the event, your trauma history, personality differences, and the nature of the event. I will discuss each of the categories of traumatic experiencing in turn. My categorization of physical, emotional, and cognitive processes in no way implies that they are unrelated. The physical experience of trauma affects an individual’s thoughts and feelings and vice versa.
