ABSTRACT

The Theatre Art Studio under the direction of Sergey Zhenovach developed from a masterskaya at GITIS. This final chapter of the studio archetype presents how a pedagogical guide can cultivate the individuals in an ensemble towards the harmony and utopic imaginings of the studio archetype. Through its theatre of sentiment, the Theatre Art Studio offers new understandings of communion and the role of sincerity and authenticity in cultivating personhood. In so doing, Zhenovach and the Theatre Art Studio echo the practices of Leopold Sulerzhitsky and the First Studio of the Moscow Art Theatre.
