ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a collection of three studies with the common theme of ‘partnership working’. Namely, a collaboration between the Tate Modern Community Learning Programme and the veterans’ mental health charity Combat Stress; the contribution of gallery workshops in a pilot art therapy-focused, short-stay, inpatient programme at Combat Stress; and the display of veterans’ art therapy images in public places, with reference to three exhibitions.

The role of partnerships is seen as core in achieving outcomes based on trust and interdisciplinary understanding. The illustrations present positive outcomes and point to the necessity of continued and more strategic partnerships ahead. The examples show that improved mental health and challenges to stigma are shared-sector responsibilities, not solvable in isolation.
