ABSTRACT

It has long been acknowledged that some nurses engage in various hostile behaviors toward other nurses, as evidenced by the often repeated expression, “Nurses eat their young.” (Bartholomew 2006, Rowe and Sherlock 2005, Meissner 1999). This behavior has been reported predominately in anecdotal stories among nurses and has only recently appeared in the research literature. Bullying in the nursing workplace has been identified in the U.S. and other international research reports.
