ABSTRACT

Over the past decade, Latin America underwent an unprecedented period of economic growth, consolidation of public accounts and reductions in inequality. The region faced the external shock of the years 2008–2009 with such an improved situation, in contrast with the historical behaviour that the region has displayed during other crises, a demonstration of the advances made in macroeconomic management and fiscal policy in recent years.
