ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the issues related to the changing role of generations and gender, and in particular the complex process of transition to adulthood, in the emerging reality of what has been wittily described as post-post-Soviet Georgia. Below are discussed the challenges posed by the economic/political transition in Georgia and its impact on transitions to adulthood. These issues are analysed both from theoretical and empirical points of view, by using survey data that allow the understanding of the changing values of young Georgians. After a general overview of the processes in the country related to the generational and gender-related factors, the data are presented in the sections that discuss the survey sample, power structure in families, social values, career and public participation.
