ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book offers a description of the state of command and control research in settings where sample sizes are small, opportunities are few and resources are limited. It looks towards a future where effective assessment of command and control abilities are even more crucial, for instance in agile organizations. The book shows how to perform iterative development cycles, and thus satisfy the demand to quickly deliver results from the research process. It describes how a field study is performed in an international context with officers in theatre. The book provides a description of the state of international command and control research in relation to the concept of agility. It deals with methodological concerns and illustrated the development of an instrument for assessing shared understanding in teams.
