The horrors of September 11 and the events that unfolded that tragic day presented a terrible day in history. Global terrorism had finally come of age. The clandestine Al-Qaeda terrorist network demonstrated that transnational terrorism represented ‘the most pernicious and underestimated threat to international peace and security in the post-Cold War world’.1
