In 2007, British blue-eyed soul singer Duffy rose to chart success with her hit single Mercy (2007). 1 The accompanying music video featured black-and-white shots of predominantly white young men executing intricate foot shuffles, tight heel spins and athletic drops to the floor; a striking intertextual reference to a distinct but relatively unexplored era of British music and dance history that continues to thrive within conventions, weekenders, blogs, websites and theme nights.
