ABSTRACT

Departing from that land of Cathay and travelling westward for fifty days 1 through many cities and towns, I arrived at the country of Prester John 2 ; but as regards him not 245one hundredth part is true of what is told of him as if it were undeniable 1 . His principal city is called Tozan 2 , and 246chief city though it is, Vicenza would be reckoned its superior 1 . He has, however, many other cities under him, and by a standing compact always receives to wife the Great Khan’s daughter 2 .
