ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes three constitutional kingdom's respective strengths and weaknesses and discusses the possible outcomes of the grand "constitutional game." It analyzes the strategic configurations provides some predictions about the results of new "romance of three kingdoms". After a brief review of the state of Western Liberal Constitutionalism in China, the chapter turns to Traditional Confucian Constitutionalism, where the institutional, ritualistic, and religious approaches towards it are mainly introduced; and offers a full three-layered picture. After describing the three approaches, it discusses their respective strengths and weaknesses and offers the vision of a three-layered Traditional Confucian Constitutionalism. The chapter briefly discusses the virtues and the vices of the three constitutional discourses. These internal virtues and vices certainly contribute a lot to their strengths and weaknesses in the constitutional game, but as we will see, there are also some other external factors that should be taken into consideration.
