ABSTRACT

This chapter shows the three church mother bodies in Zambia, namely, the Council of Churches in Zambia, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia, and the Zambia Episcopal Conference, through their theological teachings on sexuality and the image of God have greatly shaped the discourses at hand. It analyses the lived experiences of Christian MLM (men who love other men) in Lusaka, Zambia in light of their sexual orientation and being created in the image of God and how they queer and own the Bible in relation to their sexual orientation. The chapter makes two key arguments: these are, that Christian MLM have something valuable to say about their sexual orientation and the image of God, thus making their voices a vital pool for pluralistic theologies for the churches in Zambia; and that the image of God, which remains fundamental to Christian and human identity, need not be confined to heterosexual orientation as it cuts across human-created sexual borders.
