ABSTRACT
This chapter concerns itself with how the United States sees the threat from cocaine trafficking. Also, the national financial and banking sectors are used for money laundering by the traffickers. Second, the political impact will be examined through the analysis of the relationship between law enforcement and corruption. It analyse the impact of cocaine trafficking on public order, such as drug-related crimes, health issues and the limitation of civil rights. It investigates the diplomatic impact related to cocaine trafficking by focusing on foreign traffickers working to smuggle cocaine into the United States, and the way these traffickers are punished. It examines US efforts to ensure Latin American states control cocaine trafficking through the use of narcotic certification. The United States considers cocaine trafficking as a national security threat. This is because it sees cocaine trafficking as a potential harm to the US national economy and moral values, as well as potential support to international terrorism and regional instability.
