ABSTRACT

Over the last few decades there has been a truly astonishing evolution of Information Technology (IT) systems and tools. Modern tools provide design engineers entirely new ways to approach the design engineering process. They offer techniques which lie far beyond traditional methods and allow engineers much greater freedom to exercise their creativity, offering potentials like:

high speed in the use of the tool as well as for the communication of data; an environment where geographic distances do not maĴer when exchanging data; multi-user functionalities, which allow for an integrated approach; solutions for more complex problems, which previously were unavailable; as well as three-dimensional geometry visualisation improving problem analyses and communication.
