ABSTRACT

This chapter examines Western Australia’s wellness tourism industry in the context of the broader debates on the development, management and success of wellness tourism destinations. It draws on the findings of a multidisciplinary body of new research, utilizing a novel framework to assess wellness tourism destination competitiveness. In light of this, the chapter makes a special study of the wellness tourism sector in the Margaret River Wine Region of Western Australia by assessing the relevance of eight categories of core resources and competencies derived from this framework, which are considered to be crucial for its competitiveness.
