ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes the emergent practices primarily through a discussion of some of the work undertaken by the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty and No One Is Illegal (NOII) over borders. A broad coalition of anti-poverty, anarchist, labor and immigrant defense organizations, including Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP), Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and Anti-Racist Action No One Is Illegal is beginning to articulate, through public meetings and participation in actions. CUPE 3903 has also formed an Anti-Racism Working Group and an Anti-Poverty Working Group to work hand-in-hand with OCAP on actions. The main actions against the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) meetings in Quebec City, an action were planned by Mohawks with support from Ontario Coalition Against Poverty, Anti-Racist Action (ARA), and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW). In addition to issues of state repression and sovereignty, warriors organized against industrial dumping and locating of toxic production plants in and around Akwesasne.
