ABSTRACT

The challenge to ordinary food consumption discussed in this chapter comes from the changed food safety policies and medialised discourses about risk, safety and food in Europe. The Danish case study analysis that is discussed in the remainder it's closely related to this more constructionist second type of studies about consumption and food risks in everyday life. The empirical project that is analysed and discussed in the chapter is called 'The risks of consumption, Environmental norms and consumer practices'. The chapter focuses on the details of the practical procedures of dealing with food risks. It aims to emphasise the complexities of practical do-ability in dealing with riskified food consumption. The chapter discusses the relative importance of procedures versus engagements in relation to handling of risk-challenged consumption. It focuses on the negotiations of the level and content of normative engagements in risk handling.
