ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at corporate ethics and responsibility from a broader perspective with a focus on the relationship between religion, ethics, and values. It presents the legitimacy issues from the perspective of relationship between religion and business ethics. The basis for the question about the ethics, values, and social responsibility of business can be advantageously considered in the light of relationship between economics and religion, that is correlation between the economic organization and society's spiritual or spiritual values. Protestant ethics shows the close relationship between religion and economy, since the religious values actually are found as central in organization of the economy. This criticism of any form of corporate religion is against the use of values-driven management and ethics to manipulate and unify employees. Focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate governance aims precisely at creating a space for a critical democracy within the company, where employees and other stakeholders are honestly involved and open in the decision-making processes.
