ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book exmaines the research questions and addresses the research objectives. It discusses holistic view health and courtyard; contribution to the tree of knowledge; and creation of new courtyard garden houses. The research shows that the new courtyard housing facilitates some traditional cultural activities, the primary one being maintaining health/natural healing, along with drinking tea, gardening, playing games for recreation, and holding birthday parties. Symbolically, courtyard housing is an ideal place to work out cultural sustainability because culture has been regarded as the fourth pillar of sustainable development alongside the other three: environmental responsibility, economic viability, and social equity. The concept of four-sided enclosure strongly present in courtyard housing corresponds to the four pillars of sustainable development.
