ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests that all auditors as runners in the race for Excellence. Mints recommended the participative teamwork relationship between auditors and their clients works best for the development of internal auditing as a profession. All auditors need to be proactive in promoting themselves and their profession as Excellent, not just in their organisations, but also in their communities, nations and globally. Their visions and missions, bodies of knowledge, qualifications, research and forward planning are runners. Auditors need to be committed to their professions if they are to be best, better than best and excellent. The stimulant for being Excellent should always start in the job advertisement for the auditor, based on a marketed auditing vision and charter, followed by the interview and induction programme. Marketing sees the achievement of Excellence in products and services as essential for customer satisfaction – good or very good is not sufficient for long-term success.
