ABSTRACT

The themes of this research on cultural networks and cultural dialogue touched on theory and practice in the areas of collection and preservation, dissemination, creation, research, training and education – all typical cultural policy areas of interest. These concluding thoughts aim to broaden the perspective of the research by reflecting on the policy implications of this investigation and suggesting policy recommendations to support networking and partnerships between European museums, libraries and public cultural institutions around the themes of European cultural and scientific heritage, migration and integration. The coda discusses those areas in which new strategies and cultural policies are in my view most urgently needed, in order to integrate cultural policies and cultural practices for networking and cultural dialogue. Some experimental suggestions to assess and monitor new strategies and policies are also outlined.
