ABSTRACT

The Second World War (SWW) was a landmark event in the history of humankind. The joint operations were so successful in the SWW, that afterwards, a significant number of countries began to structure their Armed Forces (AFs) under the command of a single General Staff or Defence Ministry (MD). In Brazil, there are records of an incipient employment of joint AFs in 1852, during the Cisplatina Campaign, which was fought against Rosas, as well as during the War of the Triple Entente, or the Paraguay War. This chapter highlights the importance of the cultural aspects and the involvement of education in the process of integrating the AFs. The creation of the MD and the integration of the AFs have implications for education, confirming the connection between politics and education that Plato observed in ancient Greece. The AFs are aware of MD's guidelines with respect to the integration and know that it must occur.
