ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to present the results of bibliographic and documentary research on the industrial sector of space systems in Brazil, focusing on the characterisation of the industry, and the current situation of the sector in the country and its global context. The origins of the Brazilian space industry are deeply related to the creation of the Aeronautics Technological Institute (ITA) and the Aerospace Technical Center (CTA) in the region of Sao Jose dos Campos. Under the Aeronautics Ministry, the Executive Group of Work and Study Space Projects (GETEPE) was created in 1966. A new orientation can be observed for the space sector, explicit in documents such as the National Defence Strategy (END) and the White Paper on National Defence (LBDN), which defines the space sector, as well as the nuclear and cyber sectors, as priorities for investment in defence in Brazil.
