ABSTRACT

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) involves employees using their own personal computing devices such as smartphones and tablet computers to access, manipulate and store work documents. The majority of United Kingdom (UK) adults have smartphones or tablet computers. And most people who have them bring them to work, perhaps to check up on Facebook profiles, or listen to music. If there is only one account on a tablet, and if the device is set to remember login details for corporate social media accounts, it would be very easy for mischievous people with access to the device to post inappropriate content. Mobile devices should therefore never be set to remember login details. Some organisations put in place mobile device management (MDM) software that will block rooted phones from accessing corporate networks. A big problem with BYOD is that mobile devices can be rendered very unsafe by their owners.
