ABSTRACT

Placing security in context is paramount, if, that is, an organization is to continue to operate effectively. Risk managers in particular are charged with understanding the threats posed by current and evolving complexities in the business environment, however, cyberspace requires that attention is also given to the socio-cultural factors and issues that are shaping the environment in an economic and political context. Opportunities associated with cloud computing, cyber security and information assurance abound. Managers need to stand back and think of how to highlight and reinforce the link between information assurance and cyber security, and promote a security culture that permeates from one sector to another. The logic of this is that both public sector organizations and private sector organizations will be involved in various aspects of harmonizing security practices and policies. Trustworthiness is a predominant feature and how trustworthy relationships are developed and then maintained through time needs to be thought through.
