ABSTRACT

An important dimension of the intent tool is to take a human-centred perspective, and make explicit the use of design thinking and design methods to illuminate the human-dimension to the policy design. The importance of managing policy intent from conception through to delivery cannot be underestimated. The carriage of the government's intent is critically important to maintain community confidence in the government, and in society. In late 2008, the Australian Government initiated a series of new policies that aimed to reduce the rising living costs for families and society. In the Listening to Families project the champions of intent identified early were senior leaders from the local government directorate from Community Services. The artefact produced from the strategic conversation workshop captures the key points raised within the framework. The policy argument is held within, and the approach to co-design services with families is a clear part of the change.
